TIRUPATI: A BTech girl student died while her four other family members were rescued after their speeding car got washed away in the flood waters near Sampathikota village in PT Samudram mandal in Annamayya district in the early hours on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Mounika (22), a resident of Thokalapallo village in B Kothakota mandal.
According to the local police, Ramana Kumar, who manages a private school at B Kothakota, was returning back to his native after his wife’s treatment at Bengaluru along with his other family members past midnight on Saturday.
When their vehicle reached Sampathikota village, the driver of the speeding car misjudged the current in an overflowing stream and when he tried to cross over, the vehicle got swept away all of a sudden.
The inmates of the car desperately cried for help and locals and other commuters who noticed the incident, rushed to their rescue and managed to save four inmates of the car including Ramana Kumar, his wife Uma Devi, brother Srinivasulu and the car driver.
Though the locals tried their best, they could not save Mounika who got washed away in the flood waters.
PT Samudram and B Kothakota police teams retrieved Mounika’s body on Sunday morning and sent the body for postmortem. Local police registered a case.
